Part of every treatment plan

ABA Parent Training in Orange County

You are with your child far more hours than any therapist. Parent and caregiver training gives you the strategies your child's BCBA uses, explained in plain language and practiced in your own routines, so progress continues between sessions and after therapy ends.

One-on-one with a doctoral-level BCBA, in your home or by secure video. In network with Anthem Blue Cross and Aetna.

What parent training covers

What to do in the hard moments

Meltdowns, refusals, transitions and bedtime: why they happen, what keeps them going, and a plan you can actually follow at 7pm.

How to teach a new skill

Prompting, reinforcing and fading help, so your child learns to ask, wait, dress, and play with you rather than only with the technician.

Routines and visual supports

Morning, mealtime and homework routines that reduce the daily friction, with simple visual schedules that work for your family.

Coaching, not lectures

One-on-one sessions with your child's supervising BCBA, in your home or by secure video, with written summaries and video models to refer back to.

How it runs

  • One-on-one coaching sessions with your child's supervising BCBA, one to four times a month.
  • Goals set together, around your family's priorities: a calmer morning, a meal without a fight, a bedtime that ends.
  • Practice in the moment, with the BCBA alongside you, then written strategies and short video models to keep.
  • Progress reviewed with the same data your child's program uses, and the plan adjusted as your child grows.
  • Available in person across Orange County and by secure video for families further away.

Questions families ask about parent training

Is parent training part of ABA therapy or a separate service?

Both. Every BehavioTech treatment plan includes parent and caregiver training, because skills only stick when the adults at home use the same approach. Families can also enroll in parent training on its own, for example while waiting for a diagnosis, for a child whose needs are focused, or for families outside our in-home area, by telehealth.

Does insurance cover parent training?

Yes. Parent and caregiver training is a recognized part of ABA treatment and is billed under its own code (CPT 97156). We are in network with Anthem Blue Cross and Aetna, welcome private-pay families, and handle authorizations for you.

Who runs the sessions?

Your child's supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Sessions are one-on-one with you (and any caregiver you choose: a partner, grandparent or nanny), typically one to four times a month, in person or by secure video.

Do I need to be in the room during my child's sessions?

You do not need to be present for every session, but parents who join parts of sessions and practice the strategies between them see faster progress. Your BCBA will suggest which sessions are most useful to observe.

Can you train our child's school staff too?

Yes. With your consent we consult with teachers and aides and can take part in IEP meetings. We also run behavior change training for schools and organizations as a separate program.
